Shining Horse - Equine Guided Learning
Animal Assisted Therapy

Spending time with animals can bring enormous therapeutic and educational benefits.

We provide a relaxed atmosphere where our visitors can enjoy contact with our animals and be given time to simply be, away from everyday life.

Shining Horse is set in a secluded walled garden & orchard away from the public eye. We have lots of animals including: an old horse, two ponies, a goat, ducks, pigs, a tremendous number of cockerels, chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs.
Private Sessions
Being in the natural world surrounded by plants and animals can be a very healing and nurturing experience for children, young people and adults.

Our small, home environment is especially suitable for those who may:
  • need a friend
  • have lost their confidence for a variety of reasons
  • have experienced bereavement or loss
  • have learning difficulties
  • have emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • have mental health issues
  • or who may just love animals but be unable to have animals of their own

We welcome visitors by prior arrangement. We aim to be highly flexible, tailoring our approach to individual requirements. We are pleased to work alongside parent/carers or caring professionals including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists etc to support individual educational or care programmes

We carry public liability for our premises and animals and staff are CRB (police) checked.

"Modern life can become so pressured, so hurried, that we barely allow ourselves time to relax, to just be. Animal Assisted Therapy is a way of allowing you to just do that."
Group Visits
We welcome all types of visitors by prior arrangement. Our visitors have the opportunity for lots of hands-on contact with the animals and the time to enjoy our pretty rural setting.

Our setting is particularly well-suited to nurseries, childminding groups, primary schools and special need groups.

We aim to make your visit as interesting as possible. We aim to be extremely flexible and can design activities especially for your group.

Refreshments are available to purchase. Please contact us to discuss your requirements, arrange a booking or for more information.

What our Visitors Say

School Visit
"It was a magic day...as they say, some days are diamonds and this was definitely one. You made us very welcome and the laid back attitude and your response to the young people was magnificent. Although some of the group find it difficult to express themselves they all gained something from the experience..it really brought some of them out of their own little world to engage on levels we haven't seen before."
